Gifford Center for Population Studies

The Gifford Center advances cross-disciplinary research and training on human mobility related to the uneven origins and impacts of globalizing societies, population growth, and climate change.

We train future leaders in migration and refugee research and policy analysis through academic and professional experiences connecting undergraduate and graduate students, immigration practitioners, and early-career faculty at UC Davis and elsewhere. We also support more senior researchers and practitioners who mentor Gifford scholars or contribute to our publications. Our proximity to Sacramento--the most ethnically diverse U.S. city and capitol of the state with the most foreign-born--offers numerous opportunities for practical training, research, and policy analysis on immigration and related issues.
