Project Participants

Urban Land Use and Transportation Center (ULTRANS)

Management Team

Susan Handy

Professor Handy is currently a professor in the Department of Environmental Science and Policy at UC Davis, and the Director of the Sustainable Transportation Center (part of the Federal University Transportation Centers program). She is also the Deputy Director of the Urban Land Use and Transportation Center. Professor Handy's research focuses on the relationships between transportation and land use. She is particularly interested in the impact of land use on travel behavior and creating strategies for reducing automobile dependence.

Caroline Rodier

Dr. Rodier is ULTRANS' associate director and senior researcher for integrated modeling. Her major areas of research include transportation and land use planning and environmental policy analysis. Caroline leads a staff of 12 researchers in the development manages the development of two California statewide models, an activity based microsimulation travel model (CSTDM) and a spatial economic model (PECAS), as well as an activity based microsimulation travel model for the San Joaquin Valley region.

Mike McCoy

Mike McCoy is ULTRANS' Founding Director and Principal Investigator. He specializes in the development of information and models for studying and forecasting urban growth, transportation systems use, and environmental impacts including land, air and water. He has 35 years of experience in urban planning, land use and infrastructure planning policy, and data aggregation and distribution issues.

Researchers

Robert Johnston

Professor Johnston is a senior adviser for the CalSIIM project, as well as an Emeritus Professor in the Environmental Science and Policy Department.

Deborah Salon

Dr. Salon is a staff economist focusing her research on urban travel behavior and land use.

Gordon Garry

Gordon Garry is a research associate in the Department of Environmental Science and Policy, and Research Director for the Sacramento Area Council of Governments.

Dr. Circella has been a leading member of the transportation and land use modeling team at ULTRANS. Starting in November 2013, he has moved to Georgia Tech (Atlanta, GA) where he is a Research Engineer in the School of Civil and Environmental Engineering. He keeps a part-time appointment at UC Davis where he is the principal investigator and continues to work on several research projects on travel behavior analysis, transportation modeling, energy consumption and the mobility of young adults ("millennials").

Gian-Claudia Sciara is a postdoctoral scholar at the Urban Land Use and Transportation Center (ULTRANS) at the University of California, Davis. Her research addresses institutions in transportation planning, policy, and finance, particularly at the regional scale. In current funded projects, she is examining the implementation of SB375 in California, which has made greenhouse gas reduction a new transportation policy goal.

Nate Roth leads the UPLAN modeling team and ULTRANS's UrbanFootprint involvement, and is a member of the CalSIIM technical team. In his spare time, Nate is working on his Ph.D. in Geography at UC Davis.

Farzad Alemi is pursuing a PhD degree in Transportation Technology and Policy at the Institute of Transportation Studies. He is a graduate student researcher at ULTRANS working on various Transportation and Land use projects, including CSTDM, SFpark, ABMs, and PECAS.

Andrew McFadden is a graduate student researcher at ULTRANS finishing up his Master of Science degree in Transportation Technology and Policy at the Institute of Transportation Studies.

Integrated Modeling and Forecasting Group

Ryan works on the UPLAN Model, and is a member of the CalSIIM technical team.

Andy Holguin works on the UPLAN Model, and is a member of the CalSIIM technical team.

Nico Linesch is working towards his Master of Science degree in Civil and Environmental Engineering at the Institute of Transportation Studies. He is a graduate student researcher at ULTRANS working as a member of the CalSIIM technical team.

Policy Design and Behavior Research Group

Seth Miller is the principal at Partners-for-Sustainability. He is recognized as a leader in regional blueprint planning. For 15 years Seth has been an advocate for community development, infrastructure investment policies, and resource planning through his extensive collaborative work with other agencies.

Emeritus

Eric Lehmer

Eric Lehmer is a senior programmer and a member of the core CalSIIM Technical Team.
